What's New - Global Links Initiative News
India Visit - As announced in our April News Mail, Robin Rowland, Chairman of GLI, and Martin Blakebrough, CEO of Kaleidoscope and Member of GLI Advisory Board, have been to India. As part of the visit, one of our Networkers, Mr Rengaraj Ramaswamy, organised a meeting of Tamil Nadu NPO/Community Leaders. Mr Ramaswamy, Executive Director, ISSI, produced a most encouraging report on the meeting. Read more...

Membership Benefits - Global Links Initiative has just become a member of The Hubworking Centre  - a convenient business and meeting venue, located in the heart of the City of London, less than 2 minutes walk from Liverpool Street Station. Our membership entitles GLI Networkers to use the facilities of The Hubworking Centre without the normal signing up fee. Read more....

What's New - Networkers' Profile Improvements
For all of you who have registered with GLI as Networkers, we have, this month, improved the layout of the information about yourself and your organisation you provide in on our Registration form. This can now be broken down into separate paragraphs making it much easier to read. We are going through the profile information you have sent in and are formatting it for you but this is a great opportunity for you to update your profile information NOW. We have also added a field in the form for a website address. It is easy to edit your Profile, just click 'Login' in the top line of the green navigation bar at the top of the web page and enter your email address and password - then click on 'Edit Profile' in the green navigation bar at the top of the web page. Update your details on the form - add or change the information about you and your organisation, add your website address - and press 'Submit'. Go on! Have a go!

What's New - Inspire Section
Be Inspired! - New 'learning by doing' stories from India and Africa
The following have been sent in to us by two of our new Tamil Nadu networkers who attended the Tamil Nadu State meeting on 6th May:-

Mr P Sonairmuthu of SAADOW - we think the range of caring and essential activities supported and initiated by SAADOW will be an inspiration and encouragement to many of our readers. SAADOW is assisting the development of Women, Children, Aged, Rural Health, General Awareness, Natural Farming and Medicine in Natham and Sanarpatti Blocks, Dindigul District and Kottampatti Block in Madurai District, Tamilnadu. Mr G Jeyaraj of Annai Theresa Trust - the work of the this Rural Development Trust is all about sustainable development particularly for women and children and we hope reading it will encourage and inspire others to also follow these ideas in their own communities. Read more....

ARUDMO is dedicated to supporting the civil societies in Africa marked by functioning democracy, good governance, the rule of law, basic freedoms, Sustainable Rural Development, Volunteerism, Gifts In Kind Programmes, Agriculture and Food Security, Entrepreneurship Development, and widespread civic participation. What's New - Share - It's Good to Share!
This month we have added two new sections:-
Social Entrepreneurship - following the GLI Exchange visit to the UK from China at the end of 2005, an article was published in Chinese in January 2006 in the 21st Century Business Review called 'Social Enterprises: A Third Force in UK's Social Development' by Zhu Ming, Li Pan and Zhao Meng. This gives fascinating insights into the Chinese reaction to the idea of social enterprise and how it might help to create a 'Harmonious Society' in China.  Read more...

We also reproduce an article taken from the BBC Radio 4 website brought to our attention by Alison Carr entitled 'Young, gifted and not for profit' by Peter Day, Presenter, BBC Radio 4 and BBC World Service which looks at what young social entrepreneurs are achieving and how they are doing it. GLI Networker Who's Who
People with energy, compassion and creativity can make the world a better place to live in. If you are one of them, we would like to invite you to become a Networker and share your visions, stories and interests with more people through our website. Velusamy Raman - Health Education and Development Society - HEADs - is working in Karur District of Tamil Nadu, India among socially marginalised farm workers and slum dwellers. Running Home for the Aged, Short Stay Home for stranded Women, and provides care and support services for HIV/AIDS people and Family Counselling Centre, apart from women Empowerment programmes such SHGs, Awareness camps and Child Development services. Neville Selhore - Sahara Centre for Residential Care & Rehabilitation, New Delhi. Sahara is a 28 year old organization whose mission is to empower people facing difficult situations due to substance use and HIV/AIDS. Sahara has implemented a range of strategies to empower people, strengthen communities, to encourage safer behaviours and to aid in the reintegration of people into society. Sahara has 36 projects most of which address substance use and HIV/AIDS. Sahara is run almost entirely by former substance users and PLHA. Sahara runs services for men, women, children and the transgender community. Contact saharahouse@vsnl.com
