Local Solutions were pleased to welcome Robin Rowland, Executive Chairman and Founder of Global Links Initiative, (together with GLI volunteer, Janet Brown) who visited the charity on the 15th August 2006. Global Links Initiative (GLI) is a virtual organisation led by a small group of people based in the UK, China and Japan. The GLI website promotes stories on innovative and successful projects to inspire social activities across the world.
Robin was keen to hear about projects that had made a difference to people's lives and during the day met with a number of staff to hear about inspirational social projects and the impact on local people and their communities. His first port of call was to the Carers Project at the main HQ, where he learnt about the number of services on offer to support carers in Liverpool, including a series of activity sessions that have recently taken place for carers to develop their confidence and sense of well-being. Robin also visited Merseysport at Liverpool Queens Dock and saw for himself the wide range of watersports activities on offer at the facility for the whole community to use. The day concluded with a tour of the Homeground project in Scotland Road, Liverpool which provides accommodation and support for young homeless people. Here he met with staff and residents who gave a brief account of how valuable the project has been in providing them with new opportunities. Local Solutions |
