The Bespoke Experience - Fair trade tourism, Pemba, Mozambique

Bespoke Experience owns and operates exclusive eco lodges, developed and ran using fair trade principles. Our objective is...

Sustainably relieve poverty while protecting the environment, using high-end tourism lodges as the catalyst

The lodges are in areas of extreme poverty and maximise all possible benefits to the surround areas while supporting our associated charity.

Guludo Beach Lodge in Northern Mozambique was our first lodge to open, the second, Mipande Bush Lodge is scheduled to open in December 2007.

Giving Back - how we do it
Giving back
: The founders of Bespoke Experience set up and supports a UK registered charity working in & around the areas of their lodges.

Objective: "To become a model of excellence for working with rural communities to help them relieve poverty and protect the environment they rely so heavily upon."

Region:
SERF is working in around Guludo village, northern mozambique

Focuses: Health, Education, Enterprise development, Environment Management and Research

: A fresh aproach
One of the unique aspects of SERF's work is intimately understanding each community we work with, enabling us to address their most pertinent problems first. Our projects are currently piloted in Guludo village, Northern Mozambique, and then expanded to other surrounding communities.

: Ownership of projects
SERF believe the success of community projects relies on the beneficiaries having a sense of ownership and pride in projects. Our projects strive to be community driven and managed wherever possible.

: Prioritisation Strategy
1. Short term
: Through constant community consultations SERF strives to address the most urgent, humanitarian needs first, including the most serious wildlife/human conflicts.

2. Medium term: Following this the less urgent social and economic issues are addressed along with data collection to enable the constant monitoring of social, economical and environmental impacts.

3. Long term: Finally, to ensure sustainability, the longer term goals lie in education and relentless monitoring and problem solving.

 : Women focussed
Wherever possible, projects are focused primarily on women. The reason for this is logical; women are at the core of the family unit are always looking for the best interests of the entire family and are the primary caretakers of young children which so many of our projects strive to benefit.

: Sustainability
SERF was created together with Bespoke Experience which donates a growing percentage of revenues, giving the SERF security for the future. Bespoke's activities also give SERF a logistical base and numerous commercial opportunities for the communities.

: 100% of donations direct to Projects
Bespoke Experience covers all SERF's administrative costs, ensuring that all donations go directly to projects on the ground.
