The new Volunteer area will report on the personal experiences of volunteers, advertise volunteering programmes and help potential volunteers to find the volunteering opportunities they are looking for. Thare Machi Education (TME) provides a good example of pioneering volunteer work. TME is the brain child of serial social entrepreneur Helen Taylor Thompson. Helen's original vision was to use modern technology for teaching where there are no teachers or classrooms. Using cheap reliable DVD technology in the user's own language and connecting with community groups at grass roots level TME is working to produce 100 audiovisual lessons in the languages of the world's poor. On the left you can find a report from a recent TME newsletter sharing the experiences of one of TME's volunteers and supporters. You can also read other relevant volunteer stories too. Just email Paul Bishop with your volunteering stories or with full details of your volunteer programme and how to apply or with details of the volunteering opportunity you are seeking . |
