We now have nearly 450 Networkers from 45 countries and this month welcome 31 new Networkers from 12 different countries. Again India and China provided the most new Networkers but we are particularly happy to welcome our first Networkers from Belgium, Ivory Coast and Uganda. It is no longer practical for us to highlight all our new Networkers in News Mail though every one is equally important to GLI. Here is a selection of what our newest Networkers say about themselves in their profiles which, like the articles highlighted above, demonstrate the diversity of their activities and versatility of their skills. Mrs Vedha Jayaseeli - Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, India We are giving services to coastal fisherfolk community, Dalits, (Scheduled castes) women, children, handicapped persons, minorities and other economically and socially backward communities. Noeline Gwebalinbatya - Kampala, Uganda Supporting and promoting development initiatives for marginalised women, youths, children and other people in difficult circumstances, by the effective utilisation of local resources. Peter Mithra - Tiruchirappelli, Tamil Nadu, India Mithra Foundation is a development registered NGO. Women Empowerment, Child Development and Environment and Health including the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS are the major activities. Logou Marcellin Gohou - Abidjan, Ivory Coast Marcellin has already volunteered to join the GLI French language website team. I have worked with many organisations- national as well as international. So I have participated in many activities in Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Switzerland, Portugal and France. I speak and write fluently English and French. The Entrepreneurship Training Centre is founded by me to help people help themselves through job creation. We train people in main topics such as Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Management and Leadership. We also run HIV/AIDS awareness workshops. Irshan Omar - Wellampitiya, Sri Lanka I am a social worker and have participated in youth leadership programmes working for the youth in the prevention of drug abuse and reduction of drug demand by the Alcohol and Drug Prevention Centre. Also at Sri Lanka Youth Parliament on Gender, Health, Human Rights, Peace Building and Youth Employment issues and build my future career on these lines. Marie Geukens - Brussels, Belgium Greenpeace is an international campaigning organisation that acts to change habits and behaviour in order to protect and conserve nature and to promote peace. Amanda Cranston - USA Aspiring entrepreneur interested in promoting sustainable practices in Western China that would benefit the natural environment and enhance the way by which locals and visitors interact with their surroundings. Usha Mahapatara, Rourkela, Orissa, India I am a social activist. Our organisation- the Rourkela Intellectual Forum- works in a remote district of Orissa on health and awareness programmes. Dolamohan Singhara - Bhubaneswa, Orissa, India I am working as Executive Director of AHEAD an NGO in Orissa. I started working with NGOs in 1983 and have done a number of projects like children's education, food security, women's empowerment and micro credit, human rights, agriculture development and watershed projects. The area is one of the most backward in the state. My organisation is now concentrating on education for children of sex workers, HIV/AIDS and Human Rights education for school students. We have also done this year voters education campaign and are planning to do capacity building for elected representatives of the Panchayat System. We need some support from another agency for the education projects for children of the sex workers which is a basic need at the moment. Santhi Balachandran - Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India The Mother Theresa Women's Welfare Association develops the poor through education. Wendy Justice - UK A volunteer in Romania Carlos Machuca - Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada I deal in international consulting assignments for major Fortune 500 clients. In the process of serving my clients overseas, I help local people and leave them better off than when I arrived with the help of my clients. The priority is lifting people out of poverty by ensuring they get knowledge and skills to survive and prosper in South America, Central America, Africa and the Middle East. I also teach part-time to engage undergrad and graduate students in the area of social responsibility and business ethics. Emmanuel Ande Ivorgba - Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria We seek the transformation of society through leadership development, personal transformation as well as the formation of administrative skills.
