The coastal region of Tamil Nadu was badly affected by the tsunami with great loss of life, property and infrastructure. People in West Devon, who had links with communities and organisations in the area through local charity Westden and its international programme, wanted to do more than send funds for immediate relief. They set up Tamwed (Tamil Nadu ? West Devon).
The following is the very personal response to the Tsunami disaster from Letitia Bason Leone, who is a District Nurse from the town of Crowborough in Sussex UK. Letitia raised the money she needed to travel to Thailand, and the funds she took with her, through her own efforts and with the generous support and encouragement of her local church, community and workplace.
Global Nest - sustainable tourism project. In May 2005, Tharaniselvam started the community tourism project back in India at Buckingham Canal and Pulicat Lake. He started off this project with distributing sports kit to school children and tree planting at the Ennore Buckingham area at two different villages.
